The agriculture industry has traditionally
relied on unlined lagoons to store and "treat"
their wastewater. The inadequacy of this approach
is well documented. DynamOx offers a low-cost means
of addressing the wastewater concerns of these newly
regulated industries.
Key concerns for agricultural lagoons are:
- Odors from anaerobic conditions
- Groundwater contamination (also a result of anaerobic conditions)
- In-stream water quality violation resulting from discharges of highly contaminated wastewater.
As an example, Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) have until recently been largely unregulated. The 1997 USDA data estimates that 9.1 million cows and 61 million hogs in the US produce more than 320 million tons of waste per year. A majority of this waste is either untreated or is stored in vastly undersized lagoons.
The 39,000+ CAFOs have been proven to contribute to greenhouse gases, excess nutrient loads, fish kills and drinking water contamination. These facilities will come into compliance over the next ten years and the technology that can address their concerns in the most cost efficient manner stands to profit.
